Commemoration of the Day of the Armed Forces and the Navy of Peru

On 7 October 2019, the Embassy of Peru commemorated the Day of the Armed Forces and the Navy of Peru. The event took place at the Mandarin Orchard Hotel Singapore.

The Day of the Armed Forces of Peru was introduced by Supreme Decree Nº 003-77-CCFF on 24 September 1977. On the other hand, the Day of the Navy of Peru is celebrated every 8 October, which is the date of the foundation of that institution.

The Guests of Honour were Colonel James Liew Yoon Sing, Director of the Changi Regional HADR Coordination Centre in Singapore, and Lieutenant Colonel Gary Ow, Head of the Information Fusion Centre (IFC). In addition, representatives of the Minister of Defence of Singapore, the IFC, resident-Defence Attachés in Singapore, and members of the Peruvian community participated in the said event.

In his remarks, the Ambassador of Peru to Singapore, Mr. Carlos Vasquez, highlighted the key role of the Armed Forces of Peru in defending the country’s national sovereignty against different security threats, especially those of transboundary nature.

The celebration also served to honor Admiral Miguel Grau Seminario, renowned character of Peruvian history, who exemplifies the values that inspire the Navy of Peru.
