Peru confirmed as top destination for mining exploration in Latin America

Peru is the largest attractive destination for mining exploration investment in Latin America as quoted by the Canada-based consultancy Metals Economics Group, Peru’s Ministry of Energy and Mines (MEM) reported.

"Peru attracts 25 percent of global investment for mining exploration projects in the region, followed by Mexico with 20%, Chile (18%) and Brazil (12%)," MEM's Director of Mining Promotion Henry Luna said.

He also noted that Peru is the third largest attractive destination for mining exploration investment in the world (7%).

Canada ranks first with 16%, followed by Australia with 13%.

In terms of investment, Peru’s mining sector has been increasing significantly each year, the government official said.
